Penta Prism The deviation angle of 90° is thus independent of the orientation of the prism, making it especially important in applications in which the prism orientation cannot be precisely controlled. Due to geometry that total internal reflection cannot be used, the reflecting surfaces must be coated with a metallic or Left Aligndielectric coating.

The standard Penta Prism reflecting surfaces are coated with aluminum or enhanced aluminum(see Coating chapter). Sometimes, the coated surfaces are with black painting.

Precision Penta Prism By adding a wedge, it can be used as Percision Penta Prism. Left Align

It is often used in Plumb Level, Surveying, Alignment, Rangefinding and Optical Tooling.

Right-Angle Prism A Right-Angle Prism is used as a mirror to deviate light through 90 degree, and also as a retroreflector to deflect light throgh 180 degree by total internal reflection.

90-degree DeflectionLeft Align
90 degree deflection occurs at the hyotenuse face.
The image is erected and reversed.

180-degree Deflection
180 degree deflection uses with hypotenuse as the entrance and exit face.
The mail application of it is used as a retroreflector provided that the plane of incident beam includes the vertex.
